Kanjira

Posted by Prashanth M (Bangalore, India) on 9 March 2007 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

The Kanjira (South Indian frame drum) is an instrument of the tambourine family. It is mostly used in Carnatic music concerts (South Indian classical music) as a supporting instrument for the Mridanga. The kanjira is a recent innovation (having been used for fewer than 100 years), and was added to classical concerts during the 1930s.

great motion shot, love the fact that it really isolates the instrument and its player, the motion blur really illustrates the players technique well.

Slow shutter communicates movement... this shot could not be without movement... I usually think a shot is great if it gives more than an image. This brings sound with it... and the thought of a nice "velada" with it.
