Close-up of the Kannada Shaasana.

That's Kannada script. Kannada script evolved over a period of more than 1500 years, it's difficult for a person to read it even if he knows present day Kannada script. The written Kannada languag has been classified majorly in to 4 groups -
- Poorvada Halegannada (Pre-ancient Kananda) - Time frame around 5th centuary
- Halegannada (Ancient Kannada) - From the ninth to fourteenth century.
- Nadugannada (Middle Kannada) - Period between fourteenth and eighteenth century
- Hosagannada (Modern Kannada) - Present day Kannada, nineteenth century and later

"... it's difficult for a person to read it even if he knows present day Kannada script." This is true of almost all ancient South Indian languages; and yet we quibble and kill to preserve our language. How shocking!
